Five major commercial developments currently threaten the Shawangunk Ridge.

Threats map Awosting Reserve - The original proposal called for 349 luxury homes to be built right up to the cliffs at Gertrude's Nose, Hamilton Point and around Mud Pond, located directly below Minnewaska State Park and adjacent to Sam's Point Preserve and Mohonk Preserve.

Greenville condominiums - Currently there is a plan before the Planning Board for more than 2000 condominiums to be built on 450 acres on the ridge north of I-84.

Ellenville Casino - A proposal to open casinos in Ulster County includes a 225-acre site two miles on the slopes of the Ridge, south of Ellenville on Route 209.

Wurtsboro proposed interstate - NYS Department of Transportation (DOT) is considering a full interstate exit to be built directly on top of the ridge above Wurtsboro.
