Take Action to Stop the Mushroom Plant!

Copies of the FEIS are now available at Town Hall as well as Bloomingburg, Wurtsboro, and Ellenville libraries. The Planning Board determined that the FEIS was "complete" at it's March 15th meeting and released the document to the public on March 18th. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO EXPRESS YOUR OPPOSITION AND/OR CONCERNS AT THIS CRITICAL POINT! Any questions, contact Paula Medley at: 845-754-0743

Town of Mamakating
2948 State Route 209
Wurtsboro, NY 12790
- Use of an average of 621,000 gallons of water per day.
Will this water usage cause a draw down of local wells and of the Basha Kill?
- Discharge of approximately 400,000 gallons of water into the air daily.
Will this plume discharge create a safety issue with fog and ice?
- Sterilization of sawdust used to grow the mushrooms produces an offensive odor.
How will this odor be eliminated?
- Production of 3 tons of solid waste and 67 tons of sawdust and waste mushrooms daily.
How will this material be disposed of and how much truck traffic will be required?
- The equipment used in the plant will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with accompanying noise.
What effect will the noise have on the quality of life for local residents? on the area wildlife?
- At 80 feet, part of the building will be twice the allowable height for the zone.
Is an 80 foot high structure compatible with the surrounding unique, natural resources?
The Board of the Basha Kill Area Association (BKAA) officially opposes this project because of its extensive impacts on the water, flora and fauna, visual and historical resources of the area. The BKAA Board urges concerned residents in the region to attend the DEIS Public Hearings and to submit written comments to the Town of Mamakating Planning Board.
