WURTSBORO — Yukiguni Maitake Corp. announced this morning that it is significantly scaling back its planned mushroom plant on Route 209.
The company says it is reducing the height of building to 64 feet from 80 feet and will reduce its water use to a maximum of 95,000 gallons, down from 489,000 gallons daily.
At full build out, the company would employ 120 people, down from an estimated 210.
The company says it made the move because it is switching to a new technology that would change the method of cooling the plant, requiring less water and the need for a “large scale chiller-cooler tower system” used to evaporate the water.
CEO Kaz Kameyama also said the decision was made after a “series of the conversations with the local citizens and the political leaders.”
Yukiguni recently submitted a revised site plan to the town of Mamakating planning board.
