GARDINER -- A controversial development along the Shawangunk Ridge drewabout
100 people to a Gardiner town board meeting Tuesday, Town Clerk Michelle
Mosher said.
The board officially opened the field to agencies that might want to take
lead agency status for the State Environmental Quality Re-view Act review
of the Awosting Reserve development. Agencies have 30 days to announce
their interest.
The board also considered a resident's request to impose a building
moratorium in the town. No action was taken.
The project calls for 349 homes, cabins and cottages on 2,660 acres mostly
in Gardiner, adjacent to the Minnewaska State Park Preserve. It also calls
for a new village center and a championship golf course.
The development has brought vocal opposition from proponents of preservation
of the Shawangunk ridge.
Mosher said she has never seen so many people at a town meeting.
